Warriors Stars Brighten Up Rainbow Ward

Newsdate: 22 December 2015Wigan Warriors at Rainbow Ward

Stars from the town’s premier rugby league team, the Wigan Warriors, paid a visit to the Rainbow Ward at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan on Thursday 17 December. The Rainbow Ward is the site’s children’s ward.

WWL and the club organise a visit by the players every Christmas, aiming to bring some joy to children spending part of their festive season in hospital.

Bringing gifts to hand out to patients, Lee Mossop, Ryan Sutton, Dom Crosby and Michael McIlorum also took the time to chat to the children and their families. They also posed for photographs. Both patients and staff were thrilled to see some of their heroes come and visit them. The joy on their faces certainly made the visit worthwhile.

Diane Swindlehurst, Head of Nursing for Children’s and Midwifery Services at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust said: “It is tremendous to see that some of the ‘Warrior’s’ players were willing to come and spend some time with the children this Christmas.

“Unfortunately, being in hospital at this time of year can be a highly stressful time for a child, and their family, so, together with help from Wigan Warriors, we really try our best to raise their spirits during the festive season.

“The visit really helped to take the children’s mind off their situation for a while. The Trust would like to express their huge gratitude to the players and staff at Wigan Warriors for thinking about the children this Christmas and providing lasting memories for them.”
