Construction has started on the Assisted Conception Unit at Wrightington Hospital

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) are delighted to announce that their new fertility unit will open in spring 2015. The opening of the new unit is in partnership with The Hewitt Fertility Centre, part of Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust.

The Unit will be called the Wrightington, Wigan and LeighHewitt Fertility Partnership. All fertility services, currently provided at Leigh Infirmary will move to the new purpose-built unit, located a short distance away in Wrightington.

The move and partnership will see The Hewitt Fertility Centre’s expertise and use of the very latest in assisted conception technology combined with the Trust’s already extremely successful fertility services. Where possible on-line clinical assessments and one-stop clinics will be maintained and developed, to ensure the upmost ease and convenience for patients.

Mr Phil Harris, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and Clinical lead for the Unit said “we are thrilled that we’ll be moving to new purpose built accommodation, where we will be able to expand our services and provide an even better experience for our patients”

Dr Christopher White, Commercial Director at The Hewitt Fertility Centre, said: “At The Hewitt Fertility Centre we are extremely proud of the level of service that we are able to provide those couples who are having difficulty getting pregnant. We believe that our investment in the very latest technology, including time-lapse equipment, means that we can offer people their very best chance of a successful pregnancy. This new partnership means that even more people across the North West and beyond will have access to world class fertility services offering success rates that are amongst the very best internationally.”

Thededicated multidisciplinary team will provide excellent diagnostic and treatment services that will continue to improveclinical pregnancy rates that are currently already greater than the national averages for all treatments. The new purpose built environment will enable a highly experienced and passionate team to provide coupleswith the best possible care in a calm and relaxing setting; helping more people with fertility problems and supporting them in their dream to start a family.

The Unit will provide both NHS and self-funded treatment.
