WWL have been awarded £1.35 million to implement Health Information System

Newsdate: 18 March 2015

WWL have been awarded £1,350,000 from the NHS Integrated Digital Care Fund to part-fund our implementation of an integrated Health Information System (HIS) to achieve paperless working by 2016/17 with real time digital information.

This will greatly facilitate our ability to seamlessly share information across our local health economy and beyond.

The Trust have chosen the Allscripts sunrise electronic patient record system (EPR).  This is a world class EPR and WWL aim to follow Allscripts implementation methodology. The first major phase of implementation will be over a 16 month period and result in a “big bang” approach delivering:

  • Electronic prescribing
  • Paediatric electronic prescribing
  • Acute care digital clinical documentation/flowsheets
  • Electronic alerts and escalation
  • Rules authoring
  • Patient education
  • Electronic ward information (patient status at a glance)
  • Outpatient electronic information
  • Patient flow/bed management
  • Electronic discharge
  • Decision support.
  • Order sets

A six month phase 2 stage will follow to deliver A&E documentation and tracking boards, performance analytics and consultant iPad/iPhone apps for rounding.
