Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care Manager Made Honorary Canon

Newsdate: 30 November 2015

WWL’s Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care Manager, Reverend Anne Edwards, has been made an Honorary Canon of the Manchester Diocese. This prestigious honour is awarded to recognise important work an individual has done for the Church. It also bestows Anne with the title “Rev Canon” which she will now use before her name.

There are only 24 Reverend Canons in the Manchester Diocese at any one time, which underlines Anne’s achievement.

She has tirelessly worked for WWL NHS Trust for 11 years and is also one of the National Chaplaincy advisors. Anne was also recently named the Bishop of Manchester’s Advisor on Healthcare Chaplaincy.

In addition to her work here at the Trust, working for the Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care Department, she also works with people who are both exploring and training for Ministry within the Church. Anne is also a leader on the Manchester Diocesan Leadership Programme.
Anne was, understandably, thrilled with the news. “It is a real privilege to be named as a Canon of Manchester and it came as a total surprise to me when the Bishop asked me if I would accept his invitation to be one!” she said.

As well as Anne, three other people were installed as Canons at a service at Manchester Cathedral on Sunday 6 December.
