Starlight Walkers Strolling for Charity

Newsdate: 27 April 2016

WWL Volunteers have helped to organise a unique charity event. The “Starlight Walk” will be held on Friday 29 April at 7pm in Standish.

It will involve adults and children donning their onesies and enjoying a six and a half mile, evening sponsored walk. Meeting at the Charnley Arms, Standish, at 7pm, walkers will then stroll through Standish to the Boars Head, Chorley Road, Rectory Lane, through Pepper Lane and then back to the Charnley Arms.

The Charnley Arms are also, very generously, providing a free hotpot supper for anyone who attends and returns from their walk with an appetite. In addition, there will also be a raffle and a tombola with a variety of fun prizes to be won. Entry for the raffle is £1 a ticket.

To join the walk, visitors are required to make a £10 donation. Children can enter for free, but for safety reasons, there is, unfortunately, a limit of two children per adult.

All the proceeds will be going to two very worthwhile causes; the Cancer Care Centre at Wigan Infirmary and Derian House Children’s Hospice. People are encouraged to acquire sponsors for their walk so as much money as possible can be raised for these incredible places.

Sponsorship forms can be picked up from the Charnley Arms, Almond Brook Rd, Standish, Wigan WN6 0SS. If you wish to contact the Charnley Arms for further information, please call 01257 424619.

Nadia Koriba, WWL Voluntary Services Manager, said, “I think it’s wonderful that some of our committed volunteers have helped to organise this fun-filled event, that is for two incredible causes. I would encourage anyone who wants to spend a Friday night with family fun, to dip into their pockets and enjoy themselves at this unique occasion. You may even make some new friends.”
