On the Lookout for Volunteers

Newsdate: 3 August 2016

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) are on the lookout for dedicated Help Desk volunteers to help support our patients and services.

Currently, more than 400 volunteers work closely with staff in a range of roles from supporting the wards to volunteering on our Help Desks. In all, they contribute over an astonishing 90,000 hours a year, providing a caring, compassionate experience for patients, carers and visitors.

Our Help Desk Volunteers play a vital role in enhancing our patient experience, across all of our sites by providing a welcoming and friendly face to patients, visitors and carers, as they enter the hospital.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in, we are looking to recruit Help Desk volunteers at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary and at Wrightington Hospital’s brand new £18 million state-of-the-art development.

WWL Head of Patient and Public Engagement, Andrea Arkwright is clear on the importance of our volunteers at the Trust. She said:  “Our hospital Help Desks typically deal with over 180,000 enquiries per year, so this volunteer role is vital for supporting our patients.

“Volunteering is a two-way process. The Trust gains an integral member of the WWL family who enhances and complements the work of our staff. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and represent the diversity of the community we serve.”

If you are interested in joining the team or would like some more information about their roles, please contact the Voluntary Services Manager, Nadia Koriba at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary on 01942 822 509 or at
