Latics Bring Christmas Cheer to Rainbow Ward

Newsdate: 22 December 2016 Wigan Athletic Visit

WWL was excited to welcome members of the Wigan Athletic for their annual Christmas visit to the young patients of the Rainbow Ward on 20 December.

The players kindly took time out of their busy playing schedule to spend time chatting with their young fans, signing autographs and handing out gifts. The children and staff were very excited to meet the players and pose for photographs.

“Going to the hospital at Christmas is one of our yearly football traditions and the players are always happy to give up their time to come and visit the children in the hospital. Christmas is a time for families to be together, so being in the hospital at this time of year is never easy. If we can manage to make them smile and spread a little Christmas cheer, then we’ve done our job.” said the team Captain, Steven Warnock.

Play Specialist, Nicola Crowther said, “All the children on the ward really enjoy when members of their favourite teams come to visit. It really helps to lift their spirits and the staff and families really enjoy it too. It’s something that we look forward to every year.”

The players also brought various gifts and treats for the children to have and even left some behind for any kids that will be in the hospital on Christmas day.
