WWL Three Wishes Charity to Receive Generous Donation from the University of the Third Age

Newsdate: 1 December 2016

WWL is thrilled to accept a very generous donation to WWL’s Three Wishes Charity for £1000 from the members of the University of the Third Age (U3A).

Based in and around Ashton-in-Makerfield, the U3A is a network of learning groups aimed at encouraging people no longer in full-time employment to share their knowledge, skills and interests in a friendly environment. Since their beginning in 2009, the Ashton U3A has grown to over 200 members who get together to learn new things for fun, not with a view to acquiring qualifications.

One initiative that the U3A works towards every year is to fundraise for a charity voted on by the members. This year it was unanimously decided that the WWL Three Wishes Charity would receive the funds they manage to raise over the next two years. The Three Wishes Charity particularly struck a chord with the majority of members as they felt that it was important to give back to a charity that does so much for the community and many of the members have had experiences with WWL at one time or another.

So far the group has managed to raise a very impressive £1000 through the hard work of its members. This was achieved through member run raffles, tombolas, bake sales featuring cakes made by the Pudding Club and individual donations. The group hopes to do it all over again next year as well and once again donate the proceeds to WWL.

“The mission of the Three Wishes Charity is to help with further improving patient care and patient experience and thanks to the generosity of the general public and wonderful groups like the U3A we can continue to work towards that mission.” said Shirley Martland, Finance Controller.
