For your pies only calendar

Newsdate: 15 December 2017

A local support group has dared to bare, in the hope of raising awareness of living with cancer and beyond and in the process helping to raise funds for the Macmillan Cancer Support Charity.

The 2018 calendar titled ‘For Your Pies Only’, which features members from the Living With and Beyond Cancer user group, and is just one of a number of projects they are involved with, having also helped with a recent health and wellbeing event.

Led by group members Kay Seddon and Pam Shaw and with assistance from Alex Pegg, Macmillan User Involvement Facilitator, the calendar was a way of giving back as thanks for the excellent service they received.

Kay, 51, was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2015 and had a lumpectomy to her left breast followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Speaking about the impacts of cancer she said: “You can lose your identity when you start losing your hair.”

But behind the calendar remains a positive message from Kay who has a new perspective on life: “I wanted people to realise that there is life after cancer and you can still look as good, if not better in a different way.”

Also featured in the calendar is Malcolm Heyes, 51, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in March this year and joined the cause to raise awareness of the need for men to check.

Sales of the calendar have already started with 500 being produced in the first printing with the possibility of more if the demand is high.

The calendars are priced at £10 and will be available via the group’s Facebook page at @WiganCancerCalendar.
