Macmillan Health and Wellbeing Event

Macmillan Cancer Support in partnership with WWL will be holding a health and wellbeing event for people living with and beyond cancer.  The event will be held at the Mercure Wigan Oak Hotel on 30 March.

Kathryn Place, Macmillan Transformation Manager for the Trust, said: “It is great news that more people are living longer and surviving cancer but unfortunately not everyone with cancer is living well. Patients and their carers can struggle with trying to get the information and support they need. Many have problems with the after effects of cancer and have difficulties in getting back to work”.

The event is a great opportunity to bring patients (past and present), their families and their carers together to learn more about positive lifestyle changes; there will be opportunities to learn the best ways to move on after treatment and information on how to get the necessary support to live independent and healthier lifestyles.

A Marketplace will be the central feature of the event and will provide visitors with information from specialist services such as Cancer Nurse Specialists, Macmillan information and support services, Healthy Living teams to help with exercise and nutrition advice, benefit advice, support groups, free NHS health checks and much more.

In addition to the Marketplace, visitors can attend presentations given by patient and health professional guest speakers. Carers and families of cancer patients can get information and support from the Wigan and Leigh Carers centre who will also be on hand. The event will feature musical entertainment from local singing group, the Wigan Warblers, a choir made up of singers with respiratory conditions.

The Macmillan Health and Wellbeing event is from 1-4pm on 30 March and patients can attend the full afternoon or drop in at any time to browse the market place.
