WWL’s Neo Natal Unit Receives Kind Donation from Local Golf Society

Newsdate: 21 March 2017Neonatal Donation

WWL has recently been in receipt of a very generous donation from the South Lancashire Area Golf Society. Members from the society recently handed over a cheque for £2070 to the Three Wishes Children and Babies Fund for use on the Neo Natal Unit.

The South Lancashire Area Golf Society has been a fixture in the local community for over three decades and has always been a strong supporter of various charities throughout South Lancashire. To raise money, the society holds events throughout the year including a charity auction, raffles and draws and challenges the 45 members to pay up for penalties they earn in their golf games. “It’s all in good fun and we always get a good turn out to our events,” said Society Captain, Dave Burton.

This year Dave encouraged the society to donate the monies raised to the Neo Natal unit after speaking to his friend Allison Kurfurst, Neo Natal Sister. She mentioned that they were raising money to purchase a new incubator for the unit and Dave and the team felt that that was a very worthy cause for their donation. However, the Society managed to go above and beyond with their donation and the extra money will now be used to help furnish a private family room on the unit where parents can go to take a quiet moment with a hot drink in a comfortable setting.

Of the donation Allison said, “We were overwhelmed by the generosity of Dave and his fellow society members. The money will help us create a homely space for parents who are sometimes spending weeks or months visiting their babies who are poorly. It isn’t an easy thing that these parents have to go through and to have a quiet place to go for break and a complimentary hot drink can really make the world of difference to them.”

Dave and the society are very happy with how their donation will be spent and Dave said, “I suggested we pick The Three Wishes Children and Babies fund because I know of the excellent work that Allison and her teammates do. We are very proud as a society and are just so happy that our members are always willing to get on board to raise money for local charities. We get to help the community and do it all while playing a game we love.”
