Appointed to Wrightington Hospital in 2013, Mr. Bale trained in Orthopaedics in Manchester and was previously a Lecturer in Orthopaedic Surgery at University Manchester from 1992-1996. Mr Bale was Harry Platt Research Fellow from 1994 to1995 and appointed Consultant in Preston in 1996. He has a particular interest in arthritis of the shoulder and shoulder replacement.

Mr. Bale has been Council Member of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society and chaired the Bess Instructional Course Committee. He is also a founder member of the North West Upper Limb Group.

He has been Director of the North West Regional Training programme and was voted North West Regional (2012) and National Trainer of the Year (2013). He has served as Regional Speciality Advisor in Orthopaedic Surgery for the Royal College of Surgeons and was an examiner for the Intercollegiate Board for 10 years. He sat on the BOA Training Standards Committee and the SAC in Trauma and Orthopaedics which help set and maintain standards of training for our surgical trainees.

He has travelled widely in Europe and the US, exchanging ideas on shoulder surgery and is a regular teacher on national and international shoulder surgery courses. His main interests include arthroscopic shoulder surgery for instability and rotator cuff disease and the treatment of arthritis of the shoulder and revision shoulder replacement.
